Our Rural Healthcare Initiative works to improve healthcare education, access, and community engagement in rural areas where medical resources are scarce, starting with Vermilion County, Illinois.
Current focus
Fighting the opioid crisis
Our first goal is to help address the opioid crisis in our county. Here's how we're approaching it.
- Distribute NarcanBroaden access to naloxone, the medication that reverses overdoses from opioids like heroin, fentanyl, and oxycodone.
- Raise community awarenessRun a social media campaign teaching people how to recognize an overdose and what they can do to help.
- Build local partnershipsWork with public health, clinics, schools, and community organizations to get life-saving resources where they're needed.
- Gather and share dataTrack our distribution and collect local health insights to guide what we do next.

Build the team
Narcan supply is arranged through the county health department. We're recruiting student volunteers and building local connections.

Train and distribute
Hold community training sessions and begin distributing Narcan to shelters and community sites across the county.

Measure and grow
Track and share our impact, expand into fentanyl test strips, and help students start STEM-med teams at their schools.
